When I told my mum Russell\u2019s sass, determination, independence, boldness, energy – let\u2019s face it, outright naughty behaviour – was standard for his breed, she said she needed to Google that \ud83d\ude44<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And aha, it\u2019s all true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like literally, I just reached down from my perch to pat Russ and turned back to typing so he \u201cdug\u201d aka scratched the heck outta my toes (yoooch!!) to get my attention back!! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looked at me, then walked over and scratched the office door to be let out of the room, since you know, he realised he\u2019d gotten all he could from me – and someone else is in the kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I’ve got the dog park reviews, street walking random comments propelled at me and the Google articles to prove it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seriously. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a teeny tiny little guy right on my heel, Russell and I would trot around the beach (him!) looking cute as pie, loyal as can be and people would swoon over him. As soon as I mentioned the breed Jack Russell Terrier, I\u2019d get a look. The same look, in every bystander’s eye. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOhhhhhh. Well, good luck with THAT.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh no is he.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh dear, you\u2019ve got a hard road.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPrepare yourself!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And as he grew into his paws a friend of my mums saw a photograph of him one date claiming, \u201cHe looks like a Devil!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Devil dog is now one of his nicknames. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let’s reframe that negative mindset about the Jack Russell’s challenging character.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, to keep you updated on the real Russ right now, I\u2019ve had to pause my keyboard tapping to bring him back inside because 7am on a Sunday morning he is out there barking his voice out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is now incessantly chewing, biting, and getting harder and harder on my toes.  My reaction may have been slow, hence the harder, since this has kinda become our norm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Took me a sec to recognise I need to insert discipline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ugh. Not my personality style to have to keep at that, that\u2019s for sure! lol<\/p>\n\n\n\n
