Australian veterinarians are going to despise me for this post..
It’s kinda like the Aussie kid’s dental van – they removed it from our schools and didn’t tell everyone that you can still get free dental for your children up to the value of $1,000 in Australia – without means testing.
Yep, it’s called the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) and I know lots of people who didn’t know this.
Call 12 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) or go HERE.
Erhum, anyway, that’s how my brain works, but you didn’t come here for dental advice! You came here to learn about discount pet desexing.
(Hey it’s totally a linked topic, money-saving that’s on the low down!?)
Dogs Vet Bills – the hectic necessities.
We, as pet owners, do the research, usually, once, find the best local vet and stick with them, like bees to flowers.
But what if I told you – it could be a trap.
I did this!
So when it came time to neuter our Russ-boy, I just booked in with my vet and thought it was all peachy. Well.. maybe not for him..
That was until I mentioned the price I was going to pay to someone.
Umm, HOW MUCH!
“It should be half!?” said friend exclaimed.
After all, the point of desexing is to reduce the number of unwanted puppies (and kittens) in our shelters. Spaying your pet is considered community service, spaying assists with behavioral management, roaming pets, and reduces the number of unwanted puppies and kittens in pounds.
And guess what, the Animal Welfare League (AWL), a whole heap of Vets, and Australian Shire and Regional Councils agree too.
You’re going to LOVE this:
AWL, the clever little spunks that they are, created the National Desexing Network (NDN)
– where you can apply for a discount voucher!
I saved half!
I’ll say that again. The National Desexing Network (NDN) website gave us the details of a local vet surgery that charged HALF the price of a standard desexing using the discount voucher I applied for on the website.
Hallllf.
On $500AUD, that was significant.
Where did I go on the Sunshine Coast for my discount voucher to neuter my dog?
So after jumping onto the DIRECTORY I found our closest participating Vet Greencross Vet Kawana Waters.
We paid $160 + $65 for extra post-operation pain relief, that we didn’t use.
Now, remember, you need to have your Discount Voucher for this price, this is not their usual rate!
They were professional, friendly, and clearly love dogs.
We had 2 included following checkups and zero hiccups for our little guy.
When you have an active Jack Russell puppy it’s pretty laughable when they say “Keep them quiet while the stitches heal”.
But we managed and got over the guilt that a lot of dog owners feel, he survived the cone and is living life like it never happened.
Where can other Australian pet owners go to get a discount on desexing their pets?
Now, that’s our sunshine coast average rate, some of these councils are offering a voucher that means you can have your puppy dog desexed for as little as $60AUD, and your kitty cat for $50AUD!
Hold the mouse, I just read that Goodna, Redbank Plains, Rosewood, and Brassall Queensland residents can get a free cat desexing voucher!
Who is offering this crazy awesome discount for desexing your pet in Australia?
At the time of writing this post, there is 438 organisations, vets, councils, and participants supporting. These cover all states of Australia; Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and Northern Territory – actually, the only place I couldn’t see any participants in Tasmania.
Councils offering NDN Cooperative Desexing Programs include:
QUEENSLAND
- Cairns Regional Council
- Fraser Coast Regional Council
- Lockyer Valley Regional Council
- Scenic Rim Council
NEW SOUTH WALES
- Central Coast Council

W..A..I..T..!!
You might have further questions that you need to be answered before you book, like, when to desex your puppy or kitten? Did desexing calm my dog down? What about other people’s dogs, is there a study on that?
